Bio

Andy Place joined the North Central Michigan College's Men and Women's cross-country team as an assistant coach in 2022. Place has been an adjunct professor in the NCMC Business department for five years.

Place has coached the Boyne City Girl’s Track and Field team for 23 years. Throughout the 23 years, his teams have won three Lake Michigan Conference Championships, two Regional Championships, and finished in the top 5 at the State Championship.  He has coached 33 MHSAA All-State Athletes in Track & Field, including three State Champions. Many of Place’s athletes have gone on to compete at the college level.

In 1997, Place restarted the Boyne City High School boys’ and girls’ cross-country program. During his time at Boyne City High School, Place coached six MHSAA All-State cross-country athletes and won two Lake Michigan Conference Championships with the girls’ team.

Place started his coaching career in 1987 at Boyne Falls High School where he led his teams to six straight Northern Lakes Conference Championships and one Regional Championship. 

Place received his M.A. in Organizational Management from Spring Arbor University. Prior to Spring Arbor, he attended Saginaw Valley State College, where he graduated with his B.B.A. in Marketing. Place was a founding member and captain of the SVSC Track & Field team. After graduation from SVSC, Place started running road races and marathons, including three Boston Marathons.
