Bio
Shannon Flippin was named head coach of the Timberwolves Volleyball program in April of 2023 after serving as a volunteer assistant coach in the inaugural season.
Flippin, a former K-12 educator and native of southern California, moved to Michigan upon getting out of the Marine Corps in 1993. Coach Flippin was first introduced to volleyball and coaching by his wife Lori, who was an outside hitter for Michigan Tech. From that moment on, coach Flippin has coached volleyball teams from 12 and under club up to nationally ranked NCAA Division II schools.
Before joining North Central, Flippin was an assistant coach at Garber High School helping guide the Dukes to an 80-16 record and two district championships. The team earned a top 10 ranking in MHSAA Division II and finished the 2021-22 season with a 53-4 record.
Prior to Garber High School, Flippin was an assistant coach at Saginaw Valley State University for 11 seasons where the team qualified for the NCAA tournament four times. While at SVSU he was primarily responsible for the team defense and serve-receive instruction and has a vast experience coaching the setter position. While at SVSU he helped guide numerous players to post season honors including 5 AVCA All-American awards, the GLIAC Setter and Player of the Year, GLIAC Blocker of the Year, GLIAC Libero of the Year and numerous GLIAC All-Conference and AVCA All-Region awards.
Other college assistant coaching stints for Flippin include Northwood University and Delta College. He has also served Garber High School as the Varsity head coach and JV coach during his tenue along with leading numerous club teams.
Coach Flippin has two children, a son named Brendan who graduated from the University of Michigan in 2021 with a degree in electrical engineering, and a daughter, Jillian, who is currently attending U of M in The STAMPS School of Art and Design.
